Spring Cleaning Tips to Improve Your Indoor Air Quality

Spring is the perfect time to go outside and appreciate the pleasant weather. It’s also a great opportunity to get some spring cleaning done to improve indoor air quality so you and your family can enjoy the comfort of your home. A Carrier heater repair specialist shares some top tips here:

  • Change your air filters. Air filters are responsible for filtering out dirt, dust, pet dander and other allergens that can aggravate your respiratory system. When your air filters are filthy and clogged with debris, they can no longer clean your indoor air effectively, leaving harmful contaminants lingering in the air. It’s recommended that you change your air filters every one to three months.

  • Clean air ducts. Don’t forget to clean your air ducts, as dust, allergens and pollutants can get into them over time, which will negatively affect your indoor air quality. Let a heating repair contractor inspect and clean your air ducts for you. In the process, they can also check for leaks and other signs of wear and tear, enabling you to schedule the necessary repairs on time.

  • Consider installing a humidifier or dehumidifier. With the change of seasons comes changes in humidity levels. To maintain the desired humidity level in your home, consider installing a whole-home humidification system. When the air is too dry, a humidifier adds moisture to it. When it’s too humid, a dehumidifier removes moisture from the air. This will also help ward off negative health effects associated with poor indoor air, such as irritation of the eyes, nose and throat.
