4 Signs That You Need an Air Conditioner Tune-Up

Tune-ups offer benefits like keeping your AC unit in good shape, maintaining indoor air quality and helping to reduce cooling costs. In today’s post, local cooling and heating company Kemnitz Air Conditioning & Heating Inc. discusses the signs that you need an AC tune-up.

Air conditioner maintenance should be done at the beginning of the cooling season, even if there are no apparent signs of a problem. It is typically required by HVAC manufacturers to keep warranty coverage in force.

Signs That You Need an AC Tune-Up

If you notice any of the following signs, schedule a tune-up with your air conditioning and heating repair technician:

  • Poor airflow. This is probably the most noticeable sign: your AC unit has been on for some time but you’re not getting airflow from the registers, even after following the troubleshooting steps in the user guide.

  • Your AC unit is not blowing cool air. You might be getting airflow from your AC system, but you’re not getting cool air (or it may be blowing warm air) even when your settings are correct.

  • Temperature significantly varies from room to room. A ducted HVAC system is controlled by a single thermostat, which means every room should be more or less the same temperature. Drastically different temperatures can be caused by several factors, which can be determined during a tune-up.

  • You’re hearing unusual noises coming from your AC. If you’ve been using your AC system for some time, you’ll be familiar with its normal operating sounds — and when it’s making unusual noises which indicate a problem. An HVAC technician can pinpoint the source of these noises during the tune-up and fix the underlying problem before it gets worse.
