How to Heat Up Your Home Efficiently

While buying a new heater could be a solid solution to creating a warmer, toastier home in the winter months, there are some small things here and there that could add up to the right amount of temperature change you want in your house.

Here are five effective ways you could raise your home’s temperature a few degrees:

Seal Your Attic Door With Insulating Material

Even if you’ve made sure that the attic door is shut tight, try to add fiberglass batt to prevent air from escaping through the door. If it doesn’t lay flat, you’re definitely losing heat and letting cold air in. Use a latch to keep it closed.

Stop Drafts From Coming Into Your Electrical Sockets

Insulation isn’t typically placed inside you electrical sockets so they have empty space that invites colder air in. Remove the front panel and fill these with acrylic latex caulk. If the empty space is too big, use foam sealant. Afterward, add foam gasket behind the panel. If you do this for every outlet, you may be surprised at the change.

Replace Door Weatherstripping

Depending on how long they have been on your doors, they may not be able to insulate your home. Have a heating repair professional inspect the caulking and weatherstripping to determine if you need to replace them.

Cover Your Windows With Plastic Film

Did you know that windows account for almost 25% of heat loss? Adding a layer of plastic wrap and making sure it sticks with a hair dryer, especially on window hinges and frames, can keep the heat in and the cold out.
